1st Grade

Hi, my name is Elena Lezama. After four years of serving students as a Program Manager for Communities In Schools, I felt a calling to teach. I’m thrilled to begin my first-year teaching 1st grade dual language at South Hi Mount Elementary!

Outside of school, my husband and I are paw-rents of a four-year-old dog named Moo-Moo. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy listening to audiobooks, watching Abbott Elementary, going for walks, and spending quality time with family and friends.

I’m excited to build strong relationships with my students and their families to support their growth and celebrate their achievements. I can’t wait to start the year because I know it’ll be an incredible school year at SHM!

My name is Melina Malavé, and I am excited to join the SHM community this year. I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and am beginning my 20th year in education, including 12 wonderful years with FWISD.

I have been happily married to my amazing husband, Edgar, for 29 years. Edgar proudly served 20 years in the United States Marine Corps, and our military journey gave me the unique opportunity to teach in different places, including 3 years in Japan and 4 years in New York. We are also proud parents to twin boys, Lorenzo and Sebastian, who currently live in Miami, Florida.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy traveling, working out, listening to audiobooks, and spending quality time with my family. I am passionate about education and look forward to building strong relationships with students and families while contributing to the positive and caring environment at SHM.

I am thrilled to be part of the SHM family and can't wait for a fantastic school year!

I’m originally from Boston and have proudly spent all 10 years of my teaching career at South Hi Mount Elementary. Teaching is truly a work of heart for me. I strive to create a classroom family where every child feels loved, supported, valued, and confident enough to grow and become their best self.

I’ve been with my wonderful husband for over 20 years, and together we have a beautiful blended family of five children and five grandchildren. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, especially on cruises and taking on the challenge of a fun escape room.

I’m excited for a wonderful year of learning, laughter, and growth, and I can’t wait to make special memories with my students along the way!
