5th Grade

I was born and raised in Fort Worth. I attended Tanglewood Elementary, McLean Middle School, and Paschal High School. I graduated from the University of North Texas. This is my 18th year at South Hi Mount. I have taught kindergarten through 5th grade during my years at SHM. My husband and I have been married 27 years and have 3 children: John (24), Emma (19), and Owen (13). We also have 3 dogs: Winston (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, 8), Barnaby (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, 7) and Gabe (Goldendoodle, 2). I am also a foster for Cavalier Rescue USA.

I'm Lara Kimsey. This is my 25^th year teaching and 21st year at South Hi Mount. I am originally from Hico,Texas. I graduated from Tarleton State University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. My husband and I have two boys in high school, 2 dogs, and a cat. When I am not at school, I love watching my boys play football and baseball. I am so happy to be part of the 5^th grade team!  

Mrs. Karla Medina brings the Caribbean colors to South Hi Mount! Originally from (Ponce) Puerto Rico, Mrs. Medina graduated from Johnson and Wales University in Miami, Florida with a Culinary Arts degree and moved back to Puerto Rico to pursue her bachelor's degree in Restaurant and Business Management from the University of Puerto Rico. A teaching opportunity opened at a local cooking school, and just like her mother and sister, Mrs. Medina went for it and developed a passion for teaching. She later completed an alternate teaching certification and became a bilingual teacher in Fort Worth ISD. Mrs. Medina has taught upper elementary grades for more than seven years, and as an avid reader, enjoys teaching Literacy the most out of all subjects. Mrs. Medina embraces diversity and celebrates her student's growth. She enjoys baking, cooking, and traveling with friends and family.

Originaria de Ponce, Puerto Rico, Mrs Medina se gradua de la Universidad de Johnson and Wales, del campus ubicado en Miami con estudios en Artes Culinarias, trasladandose nuevamente a Puerto Rico e el 2008 para culminar su bachillerato en Administracion de Empresas y Restaurantes. Al surgirle la oportunidad de ensenar en una escuela de cocina local, se sumerge en el mundo de la pedagogia, despertando asi la pasion de convertirse en educadora. Mas adelante, completa el proceso de certificacion de maestra bilingue y se muda a Texas para trabajar con Fort Worth ISD. Mrs. Medina ha ensenado los grados de 3-5 por mas de siete anos, y como lectora voraz que es, disfruta mucho ensenar la clase literatura. Ademas de valorar la diversidad entre el estudiantado, celebra en grande el desarrollo y crecimiento de sus estudiantes. En su tiempo libre disfruta, experimientar con recetas nuevas y hornear para sus amigos.

Hello, My name is Bethany Easom. I was born and raised in Keller but lived in Michigan and Pennsylvania for 13 years. After college, I became a math and science teacher at a shelter for unaccompanied minors who crossed the US-Mexico border on their own. I have been a bilingual math, science and Spanish teacher for 5 years now and I just moved back to Texas last year to be near my family. I absolutely LOVE teaching math and science! I like to make class exciting by doing projects, experiments, challenges, and competitions because math and science is FUN! I am happy to be at South Hi Mount and back in my home state!

Hola, me llamo Bethan Easom. Naci y creci en Keller pero vivi en Michigan y Pennsylvannia por 13 anos. Despues de la universidad emepeze mi carrera como maestra de ciencias y matematicas en un refugio para ninos que cruzaron la frontera entre Mexico y los estados unidos sin adultos. He sido una maestra bilingue de matematicas, ciencias, y espanol por cinco anos y me mude a Texas el ano pasado para estar mas cerca a mi familia. Me ENCANTA ensensar matematicas y ciencias. Me gustar hacer la clases emocionate por hacer proyetcos, retos y experimentos porque matematicas y ciencias son divertods. Estoy feliz de estar en South Hi Mount y en Texas!
